Peñarol took advantage of Aguada’s late night and beat him by 33 points at the start of the semis

Peñarol, number four in the regular phase, and Aguada, from the play-in, opened their semifinal series of the Uruguayan Basketball League on Monday at the Antel Arena.

The aurinegro won resoundingly by 92-59, an abysmal difference of 33 points.

The aurinegro, classified directly to the playoffs after the regular series, came from defeating Malvín 3-2 in the quarterfinals while Aguada had been eighth and had to play the play-in. So, with less rest, Aguada thus opened an instance as important as a semifinal.

Y Peñarol made him pay with a tough defense and very good moments on offense.

In the two regular phase matches between both teams, the winner had been Aguada. For the second date he won 84-70 at the Trouville court on October 30 of last year, and in the round of rematches he won at the Palacio Peñarol 85-83 on January 28 of this year. At that time, the water carrier was directed by Daniel Seoane.

Emotional exhaustion and less rest time were clearly noted at startup de Aguada who came to lose 16 to 0 until he was able to score, through Thonrton, his first points.

Roberts was the most unbalanced player in the beginning with 11 points.

In the second quarter, the differences did nothing but stretch, reaching the limit of 28 points.

The Mexican Méndez reached 12 points while Diego García entered with 6 and Nicolás Borsellino with 6.

Flowers led the assists with 5. In taking the rebound, the aurinegro distributed efforts to beat Aguada 22-16. In assists he also stepped on it: 12-3 and in triples he put 6 of 13 against 2 of 15.

The difference between one and the other team was abysmal and so the aurinegros went to rest 53-25 up.

In the third quarter Aguada’s reaction was nowhere to be seen and the distances increased even more.

Casalánguida had no choice but to give their players more rest by giving minutes to the youngsters Lucas Silva and Gabriel Brun.

In the end, Peñarol won it as he wanted, by a difference of 33 points.

Roberts and Méndez were the top scorers with 17 each. Gianfranco Espíndola dominated the rebounds with 8 and Flowers led the assists with 6.
