At the other end, Liverpool’s Sadio Mané shot the ball straight into the arms of fellow Senegalese Edouard Mendy. The penalty shootout also went into overtime. With the better ending for Liverpool FC.

Salah has to be substituted early

Liverpool, who had to do without top scorer Mohamed Salah after around half an hour due to injury, thus preserve the historic chance of four trophies in one season. The Klopp club are in the Champions League final and are in second place, three points behind leaders Manchester City, with two games to go before the end of the Premier League season. The championship title in the Premier League is unlikely, however, as City is currently too dominant in the league.
