Ons Jabeur wins his first WTA 1000 in Madrid against Jessica Pegula

Ons Jabeur (10th) won his first major title in Madrid this Saturday. In the final against Jessica Pegula (14th), the Tunisian won in three sets (7-5, 0-6, 6-2). This is his first victory in a WTA 1000 and his second career title after his victory in Birmingham (WTA 250.)

In the first set, the first to make the difference is called Jessica Pegula. She won the service of Ons Jabeur and led 4-1. On track to win this round, the American even had a set point before witnessing her opponent’s comeback. The Tunisian has won 6 of the last 7 games and the set in passing.

After this great comeback, she seems to be paying the price for her efforts in the second set. Jabeur shows gestures of humor and commits many faults. Unable to react, the Tunisian suffers a scathing 6-0 from Pegula.

The match takes a completely different turn in the third set. A set that begins with three consecutive breaks. Fatigue is felt and the Tunisian regains the upper hand in her mind. Back in his match, Ons Jabeur leads 3-1 after concretizing the first service of the set. It’s Jessica Pegula’s turn to no longer be able to keep up with her opponent. She gets broken one last time and bows to Jabeur.
