Now Lewandowski’s adviser threatens FC Bayern quite bluntly

An Sunday morning, Hasan Salihamidzic may have thought that he was setting the pace. He had left out the Causa Lewandowski on the talk show “Doppelpass”. It seemed to him that it was time to put things in a different light. Most recently, Bayern Munich’s sports director had to take on most of the criticism because Robert Lewandowski wants to leave, better this summer than next if his contract in Munich ends properly.

“Of course he has an advisor,” said Salihamidzic, “who turns his head. He’s been turning his head all year, maybe even the whole second half of the season. It’s just not clean.” Players agent Pini Zahavi is said to be the driving force in transfer poker for the 33-year-old striker. He was “surprised” by Zahavi’s behavior, said Salihamidzic and reiterated that the Munich-based agent had made an offer to extend the contract. “I can’t say what he then said to the player,” said Salihamidzic.

That lasted until late in the evening, then Salihamidzic’s supposed victory on points went into overtime – and more than ever a disastrous outcome in this exchange of blows is emerging.

In any case, Zahavi, 78 years old and up to the task, backed down. The Israeli bluntly let it be known via BILD that every Bayern fan should better prepare themselves for never being able to see Lewandowski in the Munich jersey again. “FC Bayern is history for Robert Lewandowski,” postulated Zahavi.

Hoeneß brandmarkte Zahavi as „money hungry Piranha“

And on his own behalf, since Salihamidzic had blamed him for “carrying internals outside”, the accused defended himself. “Actually, I didn’t want to make these statements publicly because I have great respect for this historic club. But it’s impossible for me not to react to Hasan Salihamidzic’s statements. I was chosen as the enemy because David Alaba made the decision to leave the club a year ago. Not because I influenced him, but because those responsible in the negotiations were complacent towards him.”

Zahavi, it must be said, is not one of the club’s favorite player advisors at Bayern Munich. In September 2020, when Bayern were struggling to extend their contract with their former defense chief Alaba, Uli Hoeneß branded Zahavi a “greedy piranha”.

The question now is where the truth lies and how the interests are most likely to produce a conclusive picture. Bayern, it seems, now want to let Lewandowski fidget, but at least in the end collect a pretty penny for the world footballer. The 32 million euros allegedly offered by Lewandowski’s dream club FC Barcelona should not be enough in this regard. Lewandowski, on the other hand, just wants to get away, driven by offended vanity and injured pride.

In this confused case, there has long been statement against statement. Has FC Bayern Lewandowski made a concrete offer of his contract, which runs until 2023?

Yes, says Salihamidzic. “He got that with the term and amount,” says Bayern’s sports director.

No, says Zahavi. “There was no such offer.”

The fact is, according to Zahavi, that Lewandowski would like to leave FC Bayern “after eight years together in which he gave the club everything. Now, at almost 34, he has the opportunity to fulfill a lifetime dream and join the club he always dreamed of. Why is FC Bayern denying him this opportunity?”

Probably due to a lack of alternatives and an adequate offer for the goalscorer. At this point one would think that with a little negotiating skill, goodwill and understanding on the part of the Poles, a rethink could be persuaded. But apparently so much went wrong and misunderstood that Lewandowski’s love for Bayern has cooled and can’t be warmed up again.

Haaland’s role in the Lewandowski case

“For Robert, the matter is very clear: he wants to leave FC Bayern this summer. Nobody cares about the money here, neither Robert nor me. He hasn’t felt respected by those in charge for months, that’s the truth. FC Bayern didn’t lose the player Lewandowski, but the person Robert,” said Zahavi.

He illustrated this with a story that is said to have happened in the past year. He traveled to Munich for a meeting with CEO Oliver Kahn, Salihamidzic and squad planner Marco Neppe: “I said to them: ‘What do you think of extending Robert’s contract?’ The answer: silence. No yes, no no, no maybe, just nothing. So towards the end of the meeting I said, ‘If that’s the case, sell it next summer.’ The answer: ‘We don’t actually want to sell him, but if you bring us an offer for 120 million euros, then we can talk.’ So roughly the amount that a Haaland commitment would have cost in the summer, including all fees.

Erling Haaland, formerly Dortmund’s counterpart to Bayern’s Lewandowski, from now on chasing goals at Manchester City, apparently involuntarily contributed to the fact that the house blessing between Lewandowski and Bayern is very wrong. The people of Munich were interested in the 21-year-old Norwegian. Even big, which is not surprising. But Lewandowski obviously felt that was improper, disrespectful towards him.

“Robert is a very intelligent person, not just the best striker in the world,” said Zahavi, “he knows exactly what’s going on around him and what FC Bayern had planned. So Robert knew all along that Bayern wanted to replace him with Haaland. Erling’s father even confirmed it, telling him in a personal conversation some time ago: ‘My son comes to FC Bayern for fifty percent.’ The football world is big, but there are no secrets.”

Despite all this, they continue to consistently insist on the record champions that Lewandowski fulfills a working paper. “He has a contract until 2023, and he will fulfill it,” said CEO Oliver Kahn just WELT AM SONNTAG.

One thing is certain: Despite the summer break for FC Bayern and Salihamidzic, who was recently whistled at by his own fans, the next few weeks will be anything but quiet. “It’s clear to us, let’s get started. Now at this time the market is opening up. A lot will happen there,” said Salihamidzic. Sounds like turbulent weeks and more rounds of transfer poker around Lewandowski. Maybe even after the love’s effort has been forgiven.

In any case, Zahavi recommended Bayern Munich’s “responsible persons and also the supervisory board” to go into the matter again. “Of course you can keep Robert for another year, to be fair he has a contract until 2023,” said Zahavi, “but I wouldn’t recommend that to you.” Although he’s been in the football business for so many years, Zahavi said and has experienced a lot “I am amazed at the behavior of the Bayern bosses”.

At least in the case of Manuel Neuer, they created facts on Monday. The contract of the goalkeeper and team captain is extended by one year until summer 2024.
