It has been known for some time that large budgets are involved in the Premier League. With the sums Aston Villa have already spent on their squad for next season, a new top club seems to be in the works. After Coutinho, Kamara (Marseille), Diego Carlos is now also coming over from Sevilla for £26 million.

Aston Villa has captured Sevilla defender Diego Carlos. Sky Sports News knows the fee is £26million and Carlos was in Birmingham on Thursday to finalize his personal terms. Newcastle also tried to sign the Brazilian in January but refused to pay the £38million that Sevilla were asking at the time.

Diego Carlos will become Villa’s third signing of the summer, having previously signed Philippe Coutinho from FC Barcelona and midfielder Boubacar Kamara on Monday. For Coutinho, The Villans paid around 30 million euros. They made a transfer-free bargain with Kamara, as he had been the defensive stronghold in L’OM’s midfield for four years. To bolster the defence, Villa is said to be in talks with defender James Tarkwoski, whose contract with Burnley expires at the end of June.

NEW TOP CLUB
The time when Aston Villa put players like Engels, Nakamba, Wesley Moraes (all ex-Club Brugge) or Trezeguet (ex-Anderlecht) under contract seems to be long gone. Under the reign of Steven Gerrard, the Birmingham club has taken steps and seems to want to nestle next to the big six in England. The same ambition that Newcastle United cherish. With the transfers of Coutinho, Kamara and Diego Carlos, Villa brings players who were also on the radar of Tottenham, Arsenal or West Ham. This year’s number 14 looks determined to settle into the first half of the Premier League next year.
