NBA: Gary Payton II breaks elbow after ‘dirty’ foul | NBA News

A hard foul by Dillon Brooks has sparked controversy in the NBA and left title favorites the Golden State Warriors out of action.

Gary Payton II was fouled by Brooks on Tuesday evening (local time) in his Warriors’ 101:106 at the Memphis Grizzlies and hit the ground hard. While Brooks was immediately dismissed for boarding, Payton II – the son of former star player Gary Payton – was initially diagnosed with a fractured left elbow.

Payton II’s NBA career at risk?

In the series in best-of-seven mode, the score is now 1-1, and the Warriors are threatened with missing Payton II for a longer period of time. Golden States head coach Steve Kerr was angered by opponent Brooks’ reckless boarding. “I don’t know if it was intentional, but it was a filthy foul. Playoff basketball is supposed to be tough, yes, but there’s a code,” Kerr said. This code states that you do not endanger another NBA player’s career with such fouls. Brooks “broke the code,” Kerr accused.
