National Universiade 2022. Judoka David Alejandro Gómez Flores dies

A hard tackle from David Alejandro to Gómez Flores, judo athlete from the University of Guadalajarapassed away at the end of his individual competition of more than 100 k during the National Universiade in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua.

The death was reported by the Autonomous University of Ciudad Juarezwhich in a statement detailed that the athlete lost his life after suffering a cardiorespiratory arrest.

Immediately the athlete received rcardiopulmonary resuscitation by the medical personnel who were at the venue for said competitions.

Later, he was taken by ambulance to the Specialty Medical Centerwhere he was admitted to the intensive care area.

The technical staff of the University of Guadalajara and the rector of the University were present at the hospital. Autonomous University of Ciudad Juarez.

The Chihuahuan university lamented the death of the judoka and established communication with the family and with the authorities of the University of Guadalajara to express solidarity and attend to everything related to this death.

“He began to feel dizzy, to feel bad,” says doctor

The death of David Alejandro Gómez Flores is considered sudden death, explained the doctor Armando Tonatiuh Mondragon Rodriguezmedical specialist of the sports teams of the University of Guadalajara.

“He began to feel dizzy, to feel bad. She sat down. He told the referee to stop, he wanted to get up again, he couldn’t, and that’s when we came in and that’s when he went unemployed. (…) There was no coup, there was no event that triggered that,” said Dr. Gómez when referring to how the events occurred.

Regarding the care offered to David Alejandro, he added: “All the doctors from the different teams collaborate in the care following all the resuscitation protocols.”

He clarified that “the patient arrived at the hospital still with vital signs, maneuvers were continued in the hospital, the intra-hospital protocols for cardiopulmonary resuscitation and he died minutes later.”

“In these cases the outcome is the same. What we know, as doctors, is that this type of thing, even in an operating room, cannot be reversed.”

Governor mourns death of judoka

Maru Campos, governor of Chihuahua, lamented the athlete’s death and wrote a message on social networks sending her condolences to family and friends.

“I deeply regret the death of David Alejandro Gómez Flores, a Judo athlete from the University of Guadalajara, who lost his life during the National Universiade, in Cd Juárez. I send my sincere condolences to family, friends and the sports community.”

On Twitter, the University of Guadalajara did the same and published a message expressing its condolences

“At the University of Guadalajara We deeply regret the death of David Alejandro Gómez Flores, a student at the Virtual University System and member of the judo university selection. We send our condolences to his family and friends. Rest in peace”.
