Mouhammadou Jaiteh (Bologna) named Eurocup MVP

Awarded since the 2008-2009 season, the distinction of MVP (best player) of the season in the Eurocup, little sister of the queen event, the Euroleague, had never been won by a French player. It is now done with the designation, Monday morning, of Mouhammadou Jaiteh.

Bologna dream of Euroleague

The international interior (2.11m, 27 years old, 28 caps) was one of the great men of the season and of the competition for Virtus Bologna, who is seeking a folding seat in the Euroleague, either via an invitation or in aiming for the final victory in the Eurocup, whose Italian bastion plays the final on Wednesday at home against Bursa.

The former Boulonnais (MVP of Pro B in 2013), Nanterrien, Strasbourgeois and Limougeaud, shot this season at 12.8 points on average, shooting at a very high two-point percentage (71.1%), adding 7, 5 rebounds in his average, an evaluation of 18.1 in 22 minutes (fifth evaluation of the competition, number one per minute) during the 20 matches in which he took part.

Top scorer and rebounder of the team, author of an outing at 41 evaluation (24 points, 12 rebounds) in the regular phase against Venice, the former resident of the Pole France (Insep), whose duo with Milos Teodosic makes sparks, was also decisive in the knockout matches for the Italians. 20 points against Panevezys in the round of 16, 27 units and 38 in the next round against Ulm…

Already selected in the five major reference of the event, Jaiteh, seen again in the blue jersey after a long hiatus (bronze medalist at Euro 2015), has reached maturity after four seasons which have seen him grow far from his French comfort zone – in Turin under the rule of Larry Brown, then in Saratov (Russia), Gaziantep (Turkey) and finally Bologna, where he formed an explosive duo with his compatriot Isaïa Cordinier.
