With 10 days left to play his fifth Champions League final, the one won in Lisbon in 2014 against Atlético stands out as the most special of those he has won.

Almost 10 years have passed since Luka Modric arrived at Real Madrid. In this time he has played 434 games and won 19 titles (four Champions) that have made him one of the bastions of the team and one of the fans’ most beloved players. In September he will turn 37, but the end is not yet in sight.

I hope to continue for more years and hopefully I can finish my career here. People show me their affection in every game, everywhere, and it’s incredible. That’s why I always try to do my best when I put on the Real Madrid shirt”, said the Croatian, upon receiving the ‘Marca Leyenda’ award. “Real Madrid is everything, it’s my home. I feel very happy here. From the first moment it was impressive. I feel part of this club, I’m just another madridista, and that’s for life”, he stated.

In 10 days, Real Madrid will play the Champions League final against Liverpool. Along the way, they have made it through three knockout ties, coming from behind against PSG, Chelsea and Manchester City. “The most complicated comeback was that of City because there was hardly any time left, but the team and the fans trusted until the end. It is part of the DNA of this club. The funniest, the one against PSG, which was fifteen minutes of madness”, he underlined.

“We never give up”

“It’s very difficult to explain what happens at the Bernabéu on Champions League nights. It’s something magical. We never give up, we fight until the end and that’s what this club teaches us, to never give up“, he pointed.

And along those lines, Modric recalled that his most magical night as a madridista was on May 24, 2014, when they won the tenth European Cup in Lisbon against Atlético de Madrid, forcing extra time in the 93rd minute. “It was the most incredible for being in such a special way. If I have to keep a Champions League, it’s with that one. Now hopefully we can win another Champions League again,” he concluded.
