The Baltimore Orioles recalled top prospect Adley Rutschman on Saturday, meaning the 24-year-old catcher is set to make his MLB debut.
The ambidextrous hitter was the No. 1 draft pick in 2019 and is considered the Majors’ top prospect according to MLB Pipeline. The Orioles recalled him from Norfolk at the AAA level, while receiver Anthony Bemboom was designated for assignment.
Rutschman is expected to wear No. 35, the same as Hall of Fame pitcher Mike Mussina.
Rutschman had reached the AAA level last season, but suffered a triceps injury before the start of the current season. He had a .309 batting average in 19 minor league games this year.
