NEW YORK — Aaron Judge hit a three-run homer in the ninth and the New York Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 6-5 on Tuesday.
Judge hit the long ball at the expense of Jordan Romano (1-2). The latter had gotten himself into trouble by giving up two walks after one out.
Judge leads major league baseball with 10 shots this season.
Romano struck out Isiah Kiner-Falefa on a run, before walking Jose Trevino and DJ LeMahieu. Judge then sent the ball well over the left field fence.
George Springer hit a solo homer for the Jays, who have lost their last three games.
Springer also got a single. He’s hitting .400 in four games (six for 15).
Giancarlo Stanton tied the score 3-3 with a three-run homer in the sixth. LeMahieu and Judge were on the trails.
In the eighth, Toronto took the lead thanks to a one-point double from Lourdes Gurriel and a sacrifice ball from Alejandro Kirk.
Yusei Kikuchi of the Blue Jays went well in five and a third innings, allowing two runs and two hits. He struck out seven batters.
Wandy Peralta (1-0) pitched in the top of the ninth inning.
The two clubs will meet again on Wednesday, starting at 12:35 p.m.
