Marc Klok’s Ambition to End Indonesia’s Long Fast at the SEA Games

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Midfielder Indonesian National Team U-23 Marc Klok believes he can beat Thailand U-23 in the semifinals SEA Games 2021 (SEA Games 2022) at Thien Truong Stadium, Thursday (19/5).

The Indonesia vs Thailand duel in the semifinals of the SEA Games will take place at 16.00 WIB. Marc Klok acknowledged Thailand’s quality as one of the best, but he also believed that the Garuda Muda Squad could win.

“We have no problems and are ready to face Thailand. Yes, they are a good team, but we have to believe in winning,” said Marc Klok, quoted from the PSSI website.

The 29-year-old wants to end his 31-year SEA Games gold medal drought in football. The last time the Indonesian national team came out as champion was in 1991.

“From the start I said, my target is to win. Whoever the opponent is, we have to be ready and be able to beat him. We must always work hard, be disciplined, and focus,” said the Persib Bandung player.

He hopes that his colleagues will remain calm against a team like Thailand, which has beaten Indonesia in the 2020 AFF Cup final, recently.

The Dutch-born man also doesn’t want the bad memory of the 0-3 defeat against Vietnam in the opening party to be a scourge for his teammates.

Klok warned all members of the Red-and-white team to make three consecutive wins in the preliminary round as motivation.

“We lost against Vietnam, maybe people were stressed or panicked. However, we have to be confident and look at the target,” said Klok.
