The Challenger of Corrientesa contest organized by the South American Legion, will receive from June 13 to 19 Leo Mayer. The Yacaré, who announced his retirement from professional tennis in October 2021, received from the organizers a wild card.
The 2016 Davis Cup champion will make his presentation at the tournament to be played in his native province in the doubles draw together with Ignacio Monzón. And the tournament director, Carlos Morel, commented: “It will be a historic opportunity to see Leo Mayer at home, in his farewell from professional tennis. It will be very special for everyone, because it will be the first time he plays a professional tournament here in Corrientes, at his club.”
Throughout his career, Mayer won two ATP titles: Hamburg 2014 and 2017. He also reached No. 21 in the world in June 2015 and his best performances in Grand Slam tournaments were at Wimbledon 2014 and Roland Garros 2019, reaching the fourth round.
