José Luis Martín, runner-up in Spain twice

José Luis Martín continues to break barriers through sport based on achievements. The para badminton player has experienced one of his most prolific weekends after winning a double runner-up position in Spain. The native of Toledo but resident in Cuenca -and a member of the Albatros Badminton CD- for thirteen years has won second place in the individual SU5-SH6 and in doubles SU5-SL4-SH6 during the Spanish Parabadminton Championship held in Madrid the weekend of May 7 and 8.

Regarding second place in the Spanish Parabadminton Championship in Men’s Individual, José Luis Martín played the final against Pablo Serrano, from the Astures Badminton Club, playing an intense match, but without a doubt the rival’s youth and finding himself progressing in a CAR (High Performance Center), made it impossible to fight for the victory that would have meant climbing to the top of the box, although José Luis “showed his nails” in each of the disputed points.

Prior to the dispute in the individual modality, the Albatros José Luis, this time having José Manuel de las Heras, from Badminton Drop Toledo, as his partner, played the Spanish Championship in the Men’s Doubles modality with his own Pablo Serrano, from Badminton Astures, who was paired with Iván Segura, from Badminton Granada; the end would be the same as in the individual category and José Luis would “only” reach the second step of the podium.

Two very deserving runner-up finishes in Spain for José Luis Martín himself and also for Badminton Albatros, so it can be seen that the club and all the athletes that make it up are improving over time, despite the difficulties of training those that face year after year, with cuts in the time of their weekly activity.

From the Albatros Badminton Sports Club they wish to thank the different entities that support them: the Globalcaja Cuenca Foundation, Cuenca City Council, Cuenca Provincial Council and the Sports Service of the Junta de Comunidades de Castilla-La Mancha in Cuenca.
