Day of basketball player Brittney Griner’s incarceration in Russia the players’ union of the North American professional league WNBA has urged the release of the American in a statement.

“On the 100th day of Brittney Griner’s wrongful imprisonment, we call on everyone to use their platform and raise awareness of her imprisonment in order to arrange for her wife, Cherelle, to meet with President Biden and to bring our sister home,” the Women’s National Basketball Players Association said.

Many WNBA players followed the union’s call and spoke out on their social channels. So did NBA star Kyrie Irving. “Brittney Griner has been illegally detained in Russia since February 17. I urge the White House to prioritize Brittney’s safe return home,” Irving tweeted.

The two-time Olympic champion and star player of the WNBA team Phoenix Mercury was arrested on February 17 at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo Airport on charges of drug possession and has been in custody since then. Griner faces five to ten years in prison. Griner’s wife Cherelle Griner recently asked US President Joe Biden for help. “There is one person who can bring her back and that is our president,” she told ESPN.
