Indianola Baseball sweeps Ottawa

The Indianola baseball team won Game 1 5-2 and Game 2 7-4 to sweep the Ottumwa Bulldogs on their home field Friday night.

Ottumwa took an early lead in Game 1 by scoring a run early in the first inning, but that lead was short-lived as the Indians scored two more in the bottom half of the inning to take a lead that they wouldn’t give up. The Indians scored a run in each of the fourth, fifth and sixth innings despite the Bulldogs getting one more run over themselves in the sixth.

Game two followed almost the same formula, as the Bulldogs scored a pair of runs to start the contest, only to see Indianola score three late in the first to take the lead. Ottumwa tied the score at three early in the second, but the Indians then took control with two more runs late in the second and then another in the third to lead 6-3. Ottumwa attempted a comeback with a run in the fifth, but the Indians recovered straight away with a run in the sixth and finished the game with a scoreless high in the seventh.
Indianola improves to 5-1 and ends its busy first week of the season, and next plays on the road at Creston on Monday.
