His departure after the season seemed a done deal. Loan striker Mikkel Kaufmanns (21) should return to the original club FC Copenhagen after a season at HSV. But the decent performances of the Dane in the past few weeks have led to a rethink in Hamburg.
Before that, the U21 international failed to score a single goal in 23 consecutive appearances. The expression “Chancentod” made the people’s park quiet.
But two goals in the last three games and especially the dream goal to make it 3-1 in Rostock could give Kaufmann a future on the Elbe.
For HSV coach Tim Walter (46), the Kaufmann story has not yet been told to the end: “Of course we will speak to Kaufi.”
Walter also thinks he knows why the attacker suddenly hits the box. The brief suspension before the Dusseldorf game (1:1) after being late has probably done something for Kaufmann. Walter: “After that he did well. Maybe he needed something like that.”
