Hertha BSC – Manske speaks of “desolate condition”

After the resignation of Werner Gegenbauer, Vice-President Thorsten Manske took over the provisional leadership of the Executive Committee. In his report, he criticizes himself and makes it clear that a new start can only work together.

The signs at Hertha BSC point to a new beginning. At the general meeting on Sunday in exhibition hall 20, the course is to be set anew for the Bundesliga soccer team. The Windhorst speech is scheduled to be the first item on the agenda. Acting President Manske read out the current number of members: 41,200 members.

12:01 p.m.: Manske: “Werner Gegenbauer showed great courage and declared his immediate resignation as President and Assessor of the KGaA.” Manske thanks the ex-president for this step, there is applause and boos. Manske welcomes Lars Windhorst, the boos get louder. manske “I give you my hand and I beg you, let’s stop talking about each other and talk to each other.”

The date for the extraordinary general meeting at which a new president is to be elected was also announced: June 26, 2022.

11:53 am: Manske speaks of a “desolate state” of the club. We haven’t done a good job both on and off the pitch over the past season.” Applause from the members. “We are determined to change the direction of our club’s future. We need to create a new old lady.”

“Going it alone must be a thing of the past,” Manske continued: “Our old lady deserves to be treated with respect and not constantly thrown at the media.”

Manske: “We have to give the club back its identity as a club run by members. Hertha must become more tangible and tangible again. We’re still the biggest club in our city.”

Manske relies on the new Hertha stadium, for which there is still no location: “The new arena should also be a meeting place outside of the match days.”

11:17 a.m.: Motions to dismiss members of the Presidium will be made immediately after the Presidium’s report and not at the end of the 13-point agenda.

11 clock: Acting President Thorsten Manske opens the meeting and immediately speaks of a near-death experience with a view to the past season. And the first slip of the tongue: “Let’s be disrespectful … uh … respectful of the club.” Manske’s appeal: “May we make wise decisions today and become German champions in the amateur stadium.” Hertha’s A-Juniors play against Borussia Dortmund at 1 p.m. for the title.

10:58 am: Exhibition hall 20 is full. The mood oscillates between hope that something will change and a little concern about a mud fight.

10:28 am: The hall fills up half an hour before the start of the general meeting. Compared to previous years, there is a lot more going on. From the loudspeakers, Frank Zander’s anthem “Just home” sets the mood for a blue and white Sunday.
