Hertha BSC – “Club on fire”: Gegenbauer attacks Investor – Sport

After his resignation as President of the Bundesliga soccer club Hertha BSC, Werner Gegenbauer sharply criticized the investor Lars Windhorst: “In the past few weeks, in the middle of the relegation battle, he has set the club on fire. Windhorst is responsible for a split that affects the club and all departments seriously unsettled,” Gegenbauer told dem daily mirror. However, the 71-year-old denied that he was resigning because of the dispute with Windhorst: It was “the right time for a new start, regardless of people”.

Gegenbauer explained the resignation after the club was secured in the league in the relegation. In this way, he forestalled a possible deselection at the general meeting this Sunday. Windhorst, who invested 375 million euros in Hertha’s outsourced professional department, had accused the presidium of misinvesting the money. “A sporting effect cannot be seen from the inflow of funds,” admitted Gegenbauer: “That is our responsibility, and of course he has the right to articulate his disappointment. You can argue about the form and content.”

Meanwhile, the outgoing coach Felix Magath has severely criticized his current employer, Hertha BSC. in the Kicker he said: “I felt in the nine weeks that I had no help.” He formed the team with the coaching staff so far “that they stick together,” reported Magath. He didn’t feel it in general: “The atmosphere was more like: paragraph one – everyone does their own thing.”
