Playoff: Hamburg Towers lose in Bonn after extra time

Hamburg (dpa / lno) – The Hamburg Towers just missed a surprise at the start of the quarter-final playoffs in the Basketball Bundesliga. In the first game of the best-of-five series, coach Pedro Calles’ team lost to co-favorite Telekom Baskets Bonn on Friday after extra time 98-100 (91-91/42-41). The best thrower from the Hanseatic League was Jaylon Brown (27 points). Parker Jackson-Cartwright scored 36 points for the Baskets. The second duel will also take place in Bonn on Sunday (3 p.m.).

In the first quarter it was 15:6 after almost six minutes for the table seventh of the main round. Bonn reduced the deficit with an 8-0 run, but then Hamburg pulled away again. The Calles team also benefited from the weak three-point quota of the baskets. Around two minutes before the break, however, Parker Jackson-Cartwright gave Bonn a brief lead.

The game was almost balanced until the middle of the final quarter. After that, the Towers pulled away to 84:76, but had to accept the equalizer 13 seconds before the end. In the overtime, Javontae Hawkins finally ensured Bonn’s success with a successful three-pointer just before the final siren.
