A good three months ago, Max Eberl gave up his job as sports director at Borussia Mönchengladbach. Completely burned out, he withdrew. Shortly before the season finale, Eberl is now speaking again for the first time with an open letter.
MMore than three months after his surprising resignation from Bundesliga club Borussia Mönchengladbach, former sports director Max Eberl made his first public statement in an open letter to the fans and thanked the club’s supporters.
“It’s been some time now and unfortunately we couldn’t really say goodbye. I’m sorry I had to make this radical decision in January. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank you for the numerous and incredibly great letters and emails. They made me very happy and helped me on my way,” wrote Eberl to the board of the FPMG Supporters Club, the umbrella organization of the fan clubs.
“As you have hopefully noticed, Borussia was not a job for me, but a passion and an affair of the heart!! And at some point my battery and my heart were empty and I could no longer have done justice to this great club with all the big tasks, ”explained Eberl. “Just continuing like this would have been threatening for me and the timing was the last resort to give the club and the people involved the time to shape the future.”
“Together we have achieved great things”
He will never forget the 23 years in Mönchengladbach. “Together we suffered, celebrated, discussed and, from my point of view, achieved great things together. I know I made mistakes too and we had heated discussions at times. I also know that not everyone was always happy with my decisions. However, I do not want to justify myself now, but rather say thank you for your constant and tireless support.”
He also knows about the rumors and many stories about his departure. “However, it’s very easy, I just couldn’t take it anymore. I will now continue to travel, enjoy great experiences and people and thus take the necessary time to recharge my battery and my heart,” wrote Eberl.
