Gladbach 5-1 against Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga final

Mith a gala performance, Borussia Mönchengladbach brought a complicated Bundesliga season to a happy end, but the future of coach Adi Hütter remains uncertain. His team won the last game of the season against TSG Hoffenheim 5-1 (3-1) on Saturday, but for the first time in eleven years, as tenth, they do not occupy a single-digit place in the final table.

Neither Hütter, who still has a contract until 2024, nor the club have so far made a clear commitment to continue working together. Sports director Roland Virkus recently said that they wanted to sit down together after the season.

In front of 50,395 spectators in Borussia Park, Lars Stindl (26th), Alassane Plea (45th / penalty kick), Jonas Hofmann (45th + 1) and Breel Embolo (53rd) scored the goals for Gladbach, Andrej Kramaric (3. ) met for the guests. Hoffenheim, on the other hand, who have been in the Champions League seven times this season, continued their negative trend and have not won in the last nine games of the season.

Whistle against Ginter

Hütter did not want Matthias Ginter to start the game this time either. The national player, who is moving to SC Freiburg for the coming season, had publicly complained about how he was being treated and was whistled at by some of the audience when he said goodbye on Saturday. Ten minutes before the end he was substituted on with another whistle.

Hoffenheim got off to a good start and scored the opening goal with the first dangerous attack via Robert Skov on the right. Record scorer Kramaric then scored from close range to make it 1-0 for the guests and 13 minutes later even had the 2-0 on his feet, but just missed the goal.

With summery temperatures and the best conditions, both teams played a varied and entertaining game in which the guests acted cleverly at first and Gladbach initially didn’t benefit from their frequent possession of the ball. Stindl then managed to equalize after Alassane Plea had failed to TSG keeper Oliver Baumann and the Gladbach captain was able to use the rebound to make it 1-1.

After Kevin Vogt fouled Breel Embolo, Plea’s penalty made it 2-1 for the hosts, who shortly afterwards made it 3-1 through Hofmann and were able to turn the game around. Hofmann then provided the preparatory work for the Swiss national player to make it 4-1 with a nice pass to Embolo. It was Embolo’s sixth goal in eight games. Hofmann scored the final point to 5:1 with his second goal.
