Ghostface Killah honored in New York

May 9 has become Ghostface Killah Day.

May 9 has officially become Ghostface Killah Day in New York City. It was the city’s mayor, Eric Adams, who presented this great tribute to the legend of the Wu-Tang Clan during the inauguration ceremony of his Killah Koffee Shop in Staten Island, thanking the rap star for his contribution to music.

“There are so many people who come to see an artist, a young person who grew up here, who lived in public housing and went to public school, and who is now able to have a business here and who acts and comes back to his community. That’s exactly what we’re talking about. So I just want to say thank you. Thank you for reinvesting.”

Gary Perone, executive vice president and general manager of Staten Island Entertainment, owner of the Staten Island Ferryhawks baseball team, was also present at the ceremony. The mogul gave Ghostface a team cap and jersey and said he would name part of the ballpark Shaolin Alley in honor of Ghost’s contributions.

Ghostface s’est dit “grateful and humble” before the honor done to him.

The announcement was celebrated by many rappers on social media, including Fat Joe, Conway the Machine, Sheek Louch, Pete Rock and Pharoahe Monch, who all reacted in the comments on Ghostface’s Instagram account.

The Wu rapper’s associate also explained why they decided to open their first store on Staten Island.

“It means more culture, more flavor and more care for Staten Island, which is exactly what the Wu-Tang and Ghostface want to bring.”

A great initiative that deserves a great honor.
