Football: the future darkens for FC Sète in National 1

The Sétois lost 0-1 against Villefranche, this Friday, May 6, in the crucial match for maintenance. A last hope remains, but it will be necessary to be solid during the last day at Bastia Borgo.

The Louis-Michel stadium may have made its attendance record, it was not enough this Friday for this crucial match for maintenance. From the start, it took a decisive Pappalardo to keep the Sète in the game (4th). The reply arrived with a good combination between Ngom and Koffi, but the latter, yet alone in front of goal, did not conclude (10th).

Guardians in demand

In this rhythmic part, Ngom was then denied a goal for a fault beforehand in the surface (33rd) then, on the other side of the field, Dabasse made the small net of Papparlardo tremble (38th). The visitors finished the first period better, but Elisor stumbled on the Sète goalkeeper and Da Silva, although well placed in the axis, could not find the frame (45th).

After the break, and while everyone was scrutinizing the performance of Bastia Borgo, direct rival for maintenance, Hakkar unleashed a magnificent shot from twenty meters, repelled by Caruso (52nd). In the Sète area, Baouia lost the ball and this could have benefited Taufflieb if Pappalardo had not perfectly blocked his angle at the near post (55th).

blow for blow

The two teams went blow for blow but sinned in the finish. Elisor wasted a clear opportunity (57th) and Ngom found an impeccable Caruso on his way (61st). And finally, it was the FCBV who found the fault, with a superb goal from the head of Nirlo at the near post (0-1, 69e). The 140 Caladois supporters could exult, especially since no one was on the receiving end of a good cross from Joseph (88th).

With Bastia’s draw in Châteauroux, FC Sète will not have to lose more than two goals in Corsica for the last day. In the event, of course, where the victory will be given to him this Tuesday, on green carpet, against Red Star…
