Finland wins the Ice Hockey World Championship – Sport

Ice hockey Olympic champion Finland has also won the world championship. The hosts defeated defending champion Canada 4: 3 (0: 0, 0: 1, 3: 2) after extra time in the final in Tampere on Sunday and thus also took revenge for the 2021 final bankruptcy in Riga. After a dramatic game in the seventh minute of overtime, Sakari Manninen shot Finland to their fourth World Cup title after 1995, 2011 and 2019. Germany’s conqueror, the Czech Republic, had previously won the game furiously 8-4 against the USA. Germany finished seventh after losing to the Czechs in the quarter-finals.

Mikael Granlund (45’/46′) and Joel Armia (55′) scored for the hosts in regular time. Dylan Cozens (25th), Zach Whitecloud (58th) and Max Comtois (59th) scored for the Canadians, who are still the record world champions with Russia with 27 world titles. The Sbornaja had been excluded from the World Cup because of the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine.
