The death of the cyclist Ernest Escolano Gilborn 51 years ago in the Latas district of the Huesca town of Sabinigo, while participating in the Titan Desert 2022 in Morocco, has caused numerous expressions of pain among colleagues, athletes and clubs.

Escolano was a loved and appreciated person in the world of cycling and in Huesca society as he was one of the partners of the agency Vive Asesores Inmobiliarios, which he had launched in 2011.

This company sponsors the base categories of the CC Huesca and he had participated in ten Bearded Vultures, he planned to repeat this year and also, among others, in the Puertos de la Ribagorza.

There were also reactions from some institutions lamenting his death and thus the Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, who was visiting Marrakech, expressed his “condolences” to Escolano’s family and friends.

Also, the Minister of Education, Culture and Sports of the Government of Aragon, Felipe Facihe sent, through social networks, “my deepest condolences to families and friends.”

And voices of indignation have also been raised about the conditions in which the death of Ernesto Escolano, married with two children, took place.

This is the case of the Honduran cyclist Milton Ramosbased in Sabinigo and a friend of Escolano, who has denounced the behavior of the Titan Desert organization on his social networks.

Likewise, he has recounted the “extremely hard” hours that his family lived until he learned the scope of what had happened.

Ramos considered Escolano “an almost brother friend” and tried to persuade him not to attend the test in which he had participated in the past, on one occasion he was first in a stage.

VERY HOSTILE ENVIRONMENT

He wanted to convince the cyclist from Huesca not to go “to this sporting event where the environment is very hostile, if we refer to temperature, and if you add to that a very little humanitarian spirit on the part of the organization, the result in an eventual emergency is You’ll be in real trouble.”

According to the organization’s statement, the Aragonese runner lost his life in the second stage due to the consequences of a heart injury for which he was treated at kilometer 82 by the health team on the track.

He was then transferred by helicopter to the Mohammed VI University Hospital Center in Marrakech, where he died shortly afterwards.

Milton Ramos questions the version offered by the organizers and explains that when asked about Escolano’s situation, he was told that “he was coming in the broom car because he had left” when “the reality was that he had suffered severe dehydration which would lead him to death.” suffer multi-organ failure.

In his complaint, he adds that “when I say that they are lying, it is because in the press release they made, they put that he was taken directly to the hospital when it is completely false. We all know that he was taken to the camp at the end of the stage on day 2 and that several Hours later he was transferred to the hospital. If we add to that the fact that you arrive at the hospital and there is no one from the organization and that you have to find your own life to find your family member, I have to say that it is not easy, Morocco is a country where Arabic and French are mostly spoken.

Ramos points out that he does not understand “why the desire to want to hide a death, in all their social networks they have barely published a brief story that is a copy and paste of the press release, very poor in spirit and feelings.”

He assures that he will not compete in the Titan Desert again and invites athletes who have had bad experiences in the Moroccan event to tell their story.

He denounces that the Titan Desert “seems that the only thing they are interested in is getting every penny you have in your pocket, which is why they have even invented their own currency.” titanitos, the cules if you do not spend them in full they do not return them to you. Please, let’s be sensible and do not seek to live an adventure in a place where if you have a mishap you will have a bad time.
