Andreas Christensen will leave Chelsea in the summer. The Dane was surprisingly absent from the FA Cup final against Liverpool.

Andreas Christensen (26) from Chelsea apparently voluntarily decided not to play in the FA Cup final against Liverpool on Saturday. His team ultimately lost 5-6 on penalties.

According to consistent English media reports, Christensen was not feeling well and therefore left the team hotel, which is said to have confused his Chelsea colleagues. Coach Thomas Tuchel replaced Christensen in the starting eleven with Trevoh Chalobah at short notice.

After the game, Tuchel confirmed that the Danish centre-back would leave the club on a free transfer in the summer. FC Barcelona is considered a likely target, initially FC Bayern Munich was also considered a potential buyer.

Süle also did not play in Bayern’s last game

Christensen played through the last Premier League game against Leeds United. At the moment it seems unlikely that he will return to the squad for the final two league games against Leicester City and Watford FC. Chelsea still need two points for a fixed Champions League qualification.

There was a similar process at Bayern at the weekend, albeit in a less important game. Niklas Süle, who will move to Borussia Dortmund on a free transfer in the summer, did not play in the away game against VfL Wolfsburg (2-2). “Niki wasn’t that far from his emotional state in the final training session. I asked him if he wanted to go to Wolfsburg. He said: ‘Not really’,” explained coach Julian Nagelsmann.
