The province of Burgos will host the final phase of the Castilla y León School Age Individual Sports Championship, where 570 athletes between 11 and 14 years old will travel from the rest of the provinces to participate in the event, accompanied by their respective coaches and the corresponding referees. In total, 680 participants will meet in Burgos.

The event, organized by the General Directorate of Sports under the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Sports of the Junta de Castilla y León, is the final act of the municipal and provincial phases carried out throughout the 2021-2022 academic year. By holding these championships, the Junta de Castilla y León seeks to contribute through sport to the education of children and young people.

Throughout the day, the best school-age athletes in the community will compete on the tracks made available by the Burgos City Council in the modalities of chess, table tennis, badminton and track athletics. The students will play the final of the four sports to determine who will be the regional winner of each competition in the male and female modalities. For its part, Valladolid will host the final of the rescue and lifeguard modalities.

680 attendees at the competition

The chess competition, which will take place at 10:00 a.m. at the Lavaderos Sports Center, is attended by 64 students between the ages of 11 and 16 from the provinces of Ávila (2), Burgos (16), León (12), Palencia (10), Salamanca (8), Soria (8) and Valladolid (8), accompanied by 13 coaches and 5 referees.

In the table tennis modality carried out at the Río Vena Civic Center at 10:00 a.m., 24 schoolchildren between 12 and 14 years old from Burgos (3), León (4), Palencia (4), Salamanca (2 ), Segovia (4) and Soria (3), led by 6 coaches and 3 referees.

The badminton test will begin at 10:00 a.m. at the San Amaro Sports Complex, where 40 students between 12 and 14 years old from Burgos (6), León (6), Palencia (3), Salamanca (4), Segovia (4 ), Soria (7), Valladolid (7) will compete for the title. They will be accompanied by 9 coaches and 2 referees.

The track athletics competition is the largest, with a total of 428 participants divided into the child and cadet categories. Students from Ávila (48), Burgos (66), León (60), Palencia (30), Salamanca (44), Segovia (59), Soria (39), Valladolid (32) and Zamora (41) will participate in it. . All of them will be accompanied by their respective coaches (35) and will have 37 referees.

The Junta de Castilla y León assumes the expenses of ambulances, technical organization, picnic, water, placement of banners, tents, heads of fields and other needs for the correct development of the competitions, as well as those related to accommodation and overnight stays of the participants. , trophies and civil liability insurance, all to make possible this activity that aims to promote the practice of sport among all schoolchildren in Castilla y León.
