Brest hosts the Super League 3×3 basketball – Brest

Making Brest an Olympic city is the bet led by the Finistère Departmental Basketball Committee by hosting the 3×3 Super League on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 May. First dates of the season which will allow the best players to try to qualify for the French Open in July 2022 in Reims. A competition that promises to honor a discipline newly integrated into the Olympic program.

Less known than its big brother, which is practiced at five, 3×3 basketball is a gateway to the world of sport for the town hall. “We want to show that basketball has value in Brest”, impatient Patrick Appéré, deputy in charge of sport. “Brest is already an Olympic city thanks to sailing and handball. High-level sport has a remarkable place there”.

An inclusive weekend

“We want to make this event a sports festival accessible to all,” says Anne Madec, president of the Finistère departmental basketball committee. To do this, the former basketball player has put the small dishes in the big ones. School challenge, handibasket match, outdoor activities, etc. At the Parc-à-Chaînes, all the elements will be there to involve the public in this sporting event.

We want to show that basketball has value in Brest.

“We will be present, from Thursday, to involve the Brest schools who will come with the students for the big school challenge. On Saturday, it will be the turn of the Junior league, a 3×3 competition for minors. The Open plus 3×3 will close the weekend,” explains Anne Madec.

Well placed, the event should attract an audience of enthusiasts but also the curious. Patrick Appéré even hopes to awaken a few vocations. If this is the case, young and old will be able to follow the example of several Breton basketball players who will try to qualify for the French Open 3×3. Among them, Baptise Oger, player of Brest Métropole Basket.
