Bassols victory and Bolsova defeat in the debut in La Bisbal

The first round of VI International Women’s Tennis Tournament Solgironès de La Bisbal d’Empordà has continued today with the debut of the Girona tennis players. The premiere has been face to face. On the one hand, Aliona Bolsovawho wanted to reach the final, has fallen in the first match after being overtaken by the Greek Despina Papamichail by 6-1 and 6-2. On the other hand, Marina Bassols defeated Montenegrin tennis player Danka Kovinic 6-1. The Blanes settled the victory in just half an hour after her rival, who started as the third favorite, withdrew prematurely. Bassols’ next opponent will be Papamichail tomorrow in the second individual phase.

The fourth day at the CT La Bisbal Sports Club was notable for the first victory of Arantxa Rus, the tournament’s top seed and 75th in the world. She was also a finalist in the 202 edition. The Dutchwoman comfortably beat Australian Seoane Mendez 6-0, 6-2. The other Australian in the box, Olivia Gadecki, also beat her rival Jessica Bouzas by a double 6-2. At the same time, the Hungarian Jani Reka-Luca went round with a 6-3 victory over the American Caty McNally. As well as the young promise of Argentine tennis, Solana Sierra -who has won Sara Errani with a double 6-3-, the second head of series Xinyu Wang -beating Andrea Lázaro by 6-3, 5-7 and 6-1 -, and the Mexican Renata Zarauza – won the match against Irene Burillo 6-2, 6-4.

The one who was not so lucky was Aliona Bolsova from Palafrugell with a defeat against Despina Papamichail, who swept it 6-1 and 6-2. Unlike Bolsova, Bassols is advancing in the tournament with good feelings after beating Danka Kovinic. The Greek tennis player has retired, ending the match.

On the other hand, the two from Girona will play tomorrow quarterfinals in doubles after going round in its premiere last Tuesday. Aliona Bolsova, who is paired with Rebeka Masarova, will face Grace Min and Marcela Zacarias (4pm); while Marina Bassols, along with Akgul Amanmuradova, will then play against Alicia Barnett and Olivia Nicholls (6 p.m.).
