A friendly tournament brought together young Ukrainian refugees and local players. A nice moment of sport and sharing.

The leaders of Racing-club Badens-Rustiques and Aigues-vives organized a football day last Saturday, inviting young Ukrainian footballers and their families living in the Minervois. From Rustiques, Aigues-Vives, Laure, Tourouzelle, Villeneuve-Minervois, Siran and Cesseras, there were more than twenty of them, arriving at 10 a.m. at the Moulin stadium. They found the young footballers of the Racing-club there, as well as all the club’s volunteers. The mayors of the villages concerned were present or represented.

On a lawn that had regained its greenness, six mixed teams played in the morning, boys, girls and nationalities mixed. If it was impossible to understand each other orally, the children quickly applied the language of gestures understood by any footballer.

While Grégoire Vazquez, the dedicated grilladin, was preparing the midday meal, the club’s volunteers supervised the young people or took care of the organization of this day which brought together around a hundred people at noon. The Ukrainian families particularly appreciated the welcome extended to them by the club of the three villages, and the meal served. They also had the pleasure of meeting up with other refugees. There are indeed a hundred children with their families accommodated in the Minervois.

James Drinkwater and his wife, who live at the Domaine de Fabas in Laure-Minervois, take care of the Maisons du Minervois association and have largely participated in the success of this day, like President Sylvain and all the club’s volunteers, Salah , Pierre, Jean-François, Cédric, Mika, Yohan, Yannick, Sarah, Alexandre or even Jean-Yves.

This was a beautiful day that warmed many hearts.
