Awards.- Felix, Marín, Rossi and Márquez, among the candidates for the Sports award

The North American athlete Allyson Felix, the Spanish badminton champion Carolina Marín and the motorcycling riders Valentino Rossi (Italy) and Marc Márquez (Spain) are among the candidates for the 2022 Sports Award that the jury of the Awards will analyze starting this Tuesday Princess of Asturias.

This has been confirmed in statements to journalists by the president of the Sports jury, former athlete Abel Antón, who has admitted that his favorite is Felix, among other things because it is his sport.

“Last year he was already at the gates,” he pointed out, to then say that for him the North American is one of the great favorites this year.

While he was dealing with the media, Abel Antón was warned by the Communication services of the Fundación Princesa that he could not give details of the candidacies. However, he had already had time to say that among the candidacies there are four or five Spanish ones, and the rest, around twenty, from other countries.

“The candidacies that exist are of an impressive category,” he commented. As for Márquez, Antón has said that “he is the best motorcyclist in Spain, along with Ángel Nieto”, as well as “a reference”.

The members of the Sports jury have begun to deliberate on the candidacies at 11:30 am. The ruling will be made public this Wednesday the 25th.

Before the deliberations of the jury, its members usually attend to the interested media, each time an award is going to be awarded. However, on this occasion, there were two members who did not want to do it.

The journalists had requested to speak with the former coach and former soccer player Vicente del Bosque and with the president of the Spanish Olympic Committee, Alejandro Blanco. However, they did not want to respond to the press request and did not make any statements.

Neither did former soccer player Emilio Butragueño, who was also going to be a member of the jury, travel to the Hotel de la Reconquista in Oviedo, venue for the deliberations. Abel Antón explained that his professional obligations at Real Madrid have made him travel to Paris, where the Spanish team is playing the Champions League final against Liverpool.
