Albert Pujols gives 2 hits and is now 10th for life

Visiting New York for the last time in the regular season, the Dominican Albert Pujols He wasn’t going to leave the Big Apple without another milestone in his career. With hits in his first two plate appearances against Max Scherzer on Wednesday night, the Los Angeles slugger St. Louis Cardinals raised his tally to 3,314 to pass Eddie Collins and stand alone for 10th on the all-time hit list, according to the Elias Sports Bureau, the company that keeps official Major League Baseball statistics.

Pujols started his night with a two-run single off first base in the second inning, driving in Corey Dickerson and Dylan Carlson to even the game at two. Then in the fourth he hit another single to center field.

As a bonus, when he realized Scherzer wasn’t paying attention to him, Pujols easily stole second base while Yadier Molina batted.

Due to discrepancies in some historical records, Collins’ lifetime hit count differs. Elias credits Collins with 3,313 hits, while other sources — including MLB.com — credit him with 3,314.
