Indonesian men’s singles badminton player, Syabda Perkasa Belawa.
INDOSPORT.COM – An unusual sight was seen after the Thomas Cup title was over, the Indian men’s team managed to emerge as the new champion after successfully defeating Indonesia in the final.
The Thomas-Uber Cup is the most prestigious team event held every two years since 73 years ago. England became the first country to initiate this tournament.
In the Thomas Cup final match, Sunday (15/5/22), the Indonesian men’s team failed to defend their title after losing to India with a 3-0 score at Impact Arena, Bangkok, Thailand.
The ceremonial event of the championship title was so lively, it was seen that there were four countries that came on stage. Among them are Denmark, Japan, Indonesia and of course the new champions of the Thomas Cup India.
Denmark and Japan, which previously failed in the semifinals from India and Indonesia, were lined up as joint bronze medal holders at the 32nd event this year.
After the delivery of bronze medals, the entire Indonesian Thomas Cup men’s team got a turn on the podium to receive silver medals, after winning in the previous edition.
After the ceremonial event was over, two male badminton players from Indonesia and Denmark, Syabda Pekasa Belawa and Viktor Axelsen were caught taking selfies together.
In this photo circulating on Twitter, it can be seen that Syabda Perkasa was so happy to have a photo moment with his idol, Viktor Axelsen at the end of the ceremonial event.
Both of them even exchanged comments on their respective personal Twitter accounts. This happened after Syabda Perkasa asked for a photo with the Tokyo Olympic champion.
Even though they seem to get along and respect each other, it doesn’t last long. Because, Viktor Axelsen immediately gave a ‘threat’ to Syabda.
