World Cup – The French team qualified thanks to its success over Slovenia

The French women’s team will play in the next football World Cup! Thanks to a smooth success against Slovenia at the MMArena in Le Mans (1-0), the teammates of Delphine Cascarino, author of her 9th goal in Blue, qualified for the next World Cup this Tuesday evening. As the Euro looms, from June 6 to 22 in England, Corinne Deacon and her players have fulfilled their last objective before the great European competition. The Blue coach will now have to decide on her list of 23, which she will reveal at the end of next month.

Les Bleues sluggish in the first period

It was far from a challenge: Les Bleues led by Wendie Renard only needed one point, at home, tonight against the Slovenians to qualify for the 2023 World Cup in Australia and New -Zealand. The French have worked from the start of the match to make the difference, with a first shot on target signed Sandy Baltimore (5th). While the France team seemed to settle quietly in the Slovenian camp, Mateja Zver, the captain of the opposing team, almost surprised the Blues with a lethal half-volley shortly after the opportunity in Baltimore. Only a saving trigger from Pauline Peyraud-Magnin thus saved her team from the affront (8th). Even if Matéo put goalkeeper Meršnik to work (45th), the Slovenians almost opened the scoring, on a good individual action from Prašnikar who had managed a sombrero on Tounkara (39th).

Cascarino, and that’s it

The French made the difference after returning from the locker room. Skilfully served by Clara Matéo, Delphine Cascarino scored the only goal of the match from close range, by tackling (1-0, 48th). Even if Wendie Renard found the post from a corner shortly after (52nd), the Bleues will no longer score and will not be more worried than that by the Slovenian team. They qualify, without excelling, for the 5th World Cup in their history. However, there are still points for improvement, because the adversity that awaits them during the English Euro, which they aim to win, will not be the same. As a reminder, this summer, in Group D, France will face Italy, Belgium and Iceland before a possible semi-final against Germany…
