World champions and Olympic medalists become benchmarks in sports education

Sports disciplines at a high level require great work and sacrifice to achieve what one sets out to do. However, many athletes choose to do research or teach, in addition to competing, when they retire or even during their active period.

This is also the case in elite athletes who have been world champions in their disciplines or even Olympic medalists, in team sports or alone. Some examples of athletes and researchers are the bodybuilder Arturo Castañeda, the handball player Demetrio Lozano or the water polo player Ángel Andreo.

Other cases of athletes and teachers or researchers are the adapted Judo competitor and winner of three bronze medals at the 2004, 2008 and 2012 Paralympic Games, Mónica Merenciano, Bachelor of Physical Activity and Sports Sciences; the water polo player Ángel Luis Andreo, winner of the gold medal at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games with Spain; or the world champion in bodybuilding Arturo Castañeda.

All these athletes are teachers at Fivestars International Graduate School, one of the few international sports education centers that can count Olympic medalists and world champions among its teachers.

In addition, the need to have an expert in sports science on the team is increasingly important for elite competitors, who increasingly include scientists and researchers in their preparation to make the best decisions, highlights scientific communicator José Manuel López Nicolás, author of “The science of champions”.
