The Women’s National Professional Basketball League (LNBPF), known as SisNova LNBP Women’s League for reasons of sponsorship with the insurance company SisNova, it is one of the 2 professional women’s basketball leagues in Mexico.

The LNBPF will start with eight teams divided into two zones, in the north the Abejas de León Femenil, Astros de Jalisco Femenil, Panteras de Aguascalientes Femenil and the Libertadores de Querétaro will be in full competitive activity.

While in the southern zone, the following quintets will intervene: Fuerza Regia de Monterrey, Plateras de Fresnillo, Halcones de Xalapa Femenil and Las Adelitas de Chihuahua.

In the first instance, the National Women’s Professional Basketball League (LNBPF) existed in 2014, as a project of LNBP directors, the fair gave rise to ten teams, seven of which would separate from these staves over the years.

The LNBPF was born from the medals of the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara and the gold of the Men’s National Team in the 2013 Pre-Olympic Games, for which Elsa Flores Sánchez, who was vice president of the National Women’s Basketball Development League (LIBAFEM), was appointed by the president of the Mexican Olympic Committee (COM) and, together with Juan Manuel González, was in charge of creating this first women’s professional space for burst sport.

At the beginning of 2017, after the arrival of Sergio Ganem at the head of the National League, a dispute arose between the owners of said circuit, since Ganem had the vision that each men’s team would have its women’s subsidiary and share its infrastructure, including sponsorships, but without taking into account the owners of the teams that were inside. This caused the split.

After the aforementioned conflict, the Mexican Professional Women’s Basketball League (LMBPF) emerged and integrated the teams: Mieleras de Guanajuato, Lobas de Aguascalientes, Mexcaltecas de Nayarit, Tapatias de Jalisco, Rieleras de Aguascalientes, Gamos de la Universidad Marista, Quetzales Sajoma , Nueceras from the State of Mexico, Leonas Cenhies and Bengalis, who belonged to the LNBPF.

Eventually the LNBPF disappeared and the LMBPF increased its strength by its fans and owners.

In 2019, Sergio Ganem, President of the LNBP had announced the incorporation of the women’s branch to start in 2020. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, said contest was postponed until further notice.

“We are left with the illusion of having started last year, we already had some teams and some players signed. Unfortunately COVID came and changed everything. This year I inform you and confirm that the National League will not have a women’s circuit; we will have to wait until 2022 to see if the conditions are favorable to be able to do this”, expressed the also President of Fuerza Regia.

Sergio Ganem Velázquez, president of the National Professional Basketball League (LNBP), when making the official presentation of the first edition of the LNBP Women’s Tournament, said that with this activity another page is being written in the history of basketball in our country, in which eight quintets will take part.

Gamem Velázquez in a virtual conference announced that the first LNBP Women’s Championship will start on Saturday, April 23, 2022, with the participation of eight places, which have been duly secured.

The LNBPF will start its first tournament on April 23, 2022 with eight teams.
