Virton accuses Mouscron of “financial doping” and wants 5 million euros in compensation | 1B Pro League

Mouscron did not receive a license for professional and amateur football from the Licensing Committee this month. Based on the reports of the Licensing Commission, competitor Virton now rules that his last place in 1B is unfair.

Virton accuses Mouscron of “failing to comply with the rules of good financial governance imposed by the Football Association’s licensing regulations.”

By attracting players and staff far better than what Mouscron could afford financially, but then failing to meet its wage obligations, Virton believes there is “financial doping”.

The Licensing Commission also pointed out in its reports that Mouscron had previously (as of 2016-2017) provided false documents to obtain licenses and Mouscron is the subject of a criminal investigation, launched in 2018, for forgery.

According to Virton, the competition position is therefore unfair. “The cheater has an illegitimate advantage over the one who respects the rules,” the club said on the RTBF website.

Virton is demanding 5 million euros from Mouscron within eight days as an amicable settlement, or it says it will take further steps.

The question is where the ailing Mouscron – which already no longer received a license because of its financial problems – would get that money.
