New episode in the bizarre case of the liver donation to Eric Abidal. The former French player, who received part of this organ from Gerard Armand, an alleged cousin, in 2012, has no family relationship with the donor, as confirmed by an analysis by the National Institute of Toxicology revealed by information from ‘El Confidencial’ .

This donation is being investigated by a Barcelona court, in a case in which former Barça president Sandro Rosell and former Barça club manager Juanjo Castillo are also implicated. Now, he gives a new twist to the script because although the Frenchman’s environment recognized at the time that both were not actually first cousins, but only had a grandmother in common, the tests definitively rule out any relationship.

This is a nuance of absolutely relevance in the framework of the investigation, opened by the Police in 2017, since the family bond is of importance when authorizing a donation of a living person as motivation to altruistically give part of a own organ. Organ trafficking is punishable by prison sentences under the Criminal Code and to classify a donation as such, the existence of a payment is not essential, but the verification of the existence of some type of coercion, abuse or deception.

The absence of any type of relationship between the donor and Abidal thus underpins the suspicions that weighed on Rosell and Castillo, which, as ‘El Confidencial’ points out in its information, were recorded by the Police and the Civil Guard in up to four telephone conversations in which they admitted to having bought a liver for Abidal, later inventing the version that the donor was a relative of the Frenchman.

In this sense, Rosell’s defense has issued a statement in which he assures that “to carry out this kinship study, the samples analyzed are not the most suitable.” “If that court wishes to obtain conclusive results in the investigation of him, unquestionable biological samples should be taken from the two biological parents of Mr. Armand and the two parents of Mr. Abidal,” the statement below states.

Caso Hamraoui

The former sports director of Barça is also related to the case of the attack on the PSG soccer player Kheira Hamraoui when he was returning from a team dinner with his partner Aminata Diallo. The matter remains unresolved after pointing to Diallo herself as a possible instigator of the assault due to sporting jealousy, a version discarded before involving Abidal and his wife, in an episode of a possible revenge after the hypothetical affair between the Lioness and the soccer player .
