Thibaut Courtois disappointed after the game: ‘I thought the referee had whistled, the last goal is for my apple’

If the general public was able to enjoy the spectacle during the Champions League semi-final between Manchester City and Real Madrid, with four goals conceded, Thibaut Courtois did not have a great evening. However, on three of the four Mancunian goals, the Belgian giant could not do anything. But he still blamed himself for his passivity on the fourth citizen goal from the works of Bernardo Silva.

“I thought the referee had called a free kick”explained Courtois after the meeting, “but all of a sudden, Silva still shot on goal. I didn’t see the ball coming, so I reacted too late. This goal is for my apple.” The Real Madrid goalkeeper was also unable to cope with the Skyblues offensive tornado: “To concede four goals is never fun. Especially when it’s four avoidable goals”he breathed, pointing to his defense. “Offensively we were good, but defensively really not. On the first and second goals we were just not awake yet.”

Despite these four goals conceded, Real Madrid is still in the race for the Champions League final. But to pass, the Merengues will have to play differently according to Courtois: “On the way back, we will have to dare to go more attacking. We shouldn’t start burying ourselves.”
