supporters of the Leeds United English published this Saturday a message of thanks to the former coach of the club Marcelo Bielsa in a newspaper from Rosario, the Argentine city that hosts Newell’s, the coach’s love club.

“You reminded us that soccer can be beautiful and that a team can be greater than the sum of its parts,” says the text published in the newspaper La Capital de Rosario under the title “Thank you Marcelo.”

Bielsa was sacked from Leeds last February following a poor run of results after leading the club back to the Premier League in 2020 after 16 years in the English second division.

“You gave us much more than football. You guided us through a pandemic and brought us closer while we were apart.

You showed us that integrity and decency matter, both in good times and in bad,” says another of the fragments of the recognition message to ‘Loco’ Bielsa.

The publication was managed by supporters of Leeds through a link in Argentina, as explained to La Capital by Nicolás Bloj, the ‘leper’ fan in charge of the management before the media.

“Leeds fans contacted an Irishman who has a Newell’s account in England and he called me to manage the publication. Everything was paid for by supporters and it was purely their initiative,” Bloj said.

The message does not have a signature, does not mention the English club or the DT’s last name. “They said that it is not necessary to mention the authors or that it is for Bielsa because everyone is going to realize who it is addressed to and who does it,” Bloj explained.

Bielsa, 66, managed Leeds between 2018 and 2022 and is distinguished as a coach of international prestige with a strong personality, a lover of spectacular play with direct attacks and fast transitions. His place at Leeds was taken by American manager Jesse Marsch.
