KApitän Andrej Kogut from the handball Bundesliga club TBV Lemgo suffers from the late effects of a corona disease in February. “I was diagnosed with heart muscle inflammation. The trigger is a corona infection that I caught in our European League game in Lisbon,” Kogut told the Lippische Landes-Zeitung.
Apparently, the 34-year-old started again too early. “I only had mild symptoms and after three or four days I felt better again. I then did a quick test and thought everything was fine,” he said. “But then during the return-to-play procedure after a blood draw, my heart markers were abnormal.”
Kogut misses the Final Four
Currently, the values “have been declining significantly for a few days. But they’re not completely gone yet. We can’t risk anything.” But he was “very grateful that the myocarditis was recognized. Who knows what would have happened if I had continued training normally.”
The native of Russia will miss the Final Four for the DHB Cup at the weekend. It is questionable whether he will wear the Lemgo jersey again after seven years, given his definite departure in the summer.
