40-year-old player Lin Chih-sheng (林智勝) opened the 33e professional baseball (CPBL) season on Sunday by breaking the league home run record. The record came with the victory of his club, the Wei Chuan Dragons, 11-3 against the Uni-President Lions.

The player surpasses the previous record of 289 home runs set by Taiwanese baseball legend Chang Tai-shan (張泰山), who retired as a player in 2018 and is now the Dragons’ coach.

Lin Chih-sheng said he never thought he would break the record in the season opener. He described this experience as a dream.

Lin Chih-sheng (林智勝) increased his record to 291 as he scored again yesterday in a second game against the Uni-President Lions, won 6-4 by the Wei Chuan Dragons.
