BOLANAS.COM – Ansan Greeners coach, Cho Min-kook, explained his reason for still playing Asnawi Mangkualam as a winger even though he had been given advice by Shin Tae-yong.

Recently, Cho Min-kook has been criticized for playing the captain of the Indonesian national team, Asnawi Mangkualam, as a winger.

In fact, as is well known Asnawi Mangkualam has the original position as a right wing defender.

However, this season Cho Min-kook tried to do an experiment by installing Asnawi as a winger.

Cho Min-kook’s experiment actually didn’t go smoothly.

Asnawi looks difficult to develop his game when installed as a wing.

This situation made the coach of the Indonesian national team, Shin Tae-yong, feel a little worried.

Shin Tae-yong had also advised Cho Min-kook to return Asnawi to his original position.

“Shin Tae-yong advised that (Asnawi) be placed on the defensive wing,” said Cho Min-kook, quoted from Sports-GSaturday (9/4/2022).

However, Shin Tae-yong’s suggestion was flatly rejected by Cho Min-kook.

Cho Min-kook views Southeast Asian and South Korean football differently.

The 58-year-old tactician thinks Asnawi is more suitable to play in the wing striker position.

“I think Southeast Asia and the K-League are different,” said Cho Min-kook.

“Maybe this (tactic) will work in Southeast Asia, but right now Asnawi is trying to bounce back.”

“It would be better if he could score goals and help out as a winger.”

“My decision will not change,” he continued.

According to Cho Min-kook, he has a different tactic from Shin Tae-yong.

Cho Min-kook admitted that he prefers to use four defenders, and Asnawi is considered not good enough in defense.

Even so, Cho Min-kook opened up the possibility of returning Asnawi to his original position and playing with a three-back scheme.

“Asnawi is indeed good as a full-back with a three-man back scheme,” said Cho Min-kook.

“But we have prepared this team with a back four since the start of the season.”

“I’m not sure about the situation going forward, but if I use a back three, I will consider it,” he concluded.
