Britain imposes new sanctions on Russian military officials

Great Britain has imposed new sanctions on leading representatives of the Russian army because of the Ukraine war. The punitive measures were directed againstGenerals committing atrocities at the frontand against “individuals and companies” supporting the Russian army, the Foreign Ministry said in London on Thursday.

“Those who have Ukrainian blood on their hands will be punished,” British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss wrote on Twitter. The sanctions list includes the head of a Russian military unitwho is said to have committed atrocities in the Kiev suburb of Bucha.

British sanctions were also imposed on three generals and the spokesman for the Russian Defense Ministry, Igor Konashenkov. Her assets in the UK are being frozen and she has been banned from entering the country. Also sanctioned were the Russian arms company Kalashnikov and Russia’s state railway company, which the British Foreign Office described as “a key factor in the transport of Russian military equipment”.

The British government also announced further trade sanctions against Russia, including import bans on Russian silver, wood products and caviar. Finance Minister Rishi Sunak said the new measures aimed to “inflict further economic pain on Putin’s economy for his barbaric and unwarranted attacks on a sovereign nation.” (AFP)
