Rising Turkish basketball – TRT Spor

Our country has experienced a revolution in basketball since 2016.

Turkey, which had only the Korac cup won by Efes Pilsen in basketball until this date, has managed to win successive finals and cups in Europe, both in men and women, in many cups since this year. From this point of view, it would be appropriate to call this period between 2015-2022 the “Renaissance of Turkish basketball”.

During this period, our representatives who won 12 European cups as of today, have been a source of pride for us, with many successes coming from our different teams.

As we will remember, under the leadership of Obradovic, the greatest coach in basketball history, Fenerbahçe Beko brought our country the first and Europe’s biggest trophy, alongside this cup, Galatasaray and Darüşşafaka brought the second biggest trophy, the Eurocup.

Anadolu Efes made us proud by finally bringing the Euroleague trophy, in which Fenerbahçe Beko was eliminated in the finals twice, to our country.

Before the last play-off game in the Euroleague arena, where we were only one step behind Anadolu Efes and the Final-Four, our other two representatives had great successes.

In the FIBA Eurocup, which Bahçeşehir College lost in the last years and had an unfinished account, after the double matches, Reggio Emilia, one of the leading teams of Italy, prevailed in both matches, bringing another European cup to our country.

Our representative, who lost only one of the 12 matches played under the management of Erhan Ernak this year, made history today as the first Turkish team to win this trophy by defeating its Italian opponent with a clear score of 90-74.

Just like the Bahçeşehir College club, another representative of our Bursaspor achieved great success by making it to the semi-finals of the Eurocup.

Bursa representative, who managed to eliminate the legendary coach Zeljko Obradovic’s favorite team of Eurocup, Partizan in an away match like Belgrade in the previous round, defeated Cedevita Olimpija, another gear team of the Adriatic League, again with a clear basketball in a difficult away game. He achieved a success that no one, including us, expected. It would not be an exaggeration to say that our green and white representative, who made it to the Final-Four in Eurocup, has already made history in Europe.

The biggest factor behind this extraordinary success of Bursaspor Basketball Club is undoubtedly coach Dusan Alimpijevic. We can say that Serbian basketball, which has been the clear winner in the number of coaches winning trophies in Europe in the last two decades, has brought a new great coach to the European arena.

The fact that the Serbian coach, who is only 36 years old, has achieved such a success in such a difficult atmosphere with a very modest budget and staff is something that should really be applauded. We can safely say that our representative, who matched Andorra, one of the league’s favorites, in the semi-finals, achieved one of the biggest successes of Europe, no matter what the result.

Another part that made us smile in both Bahçeşehir College and Frutti Extra Bursaspor team was undoubtedly the role of our Turkish basketball players in these successes. Kartal Özmizrak and Muhammed Baygül at Bahçeşehir College became the two players who contributed the most to the team on the way to the cup this year. Likewise, Onuralp Bitim in Bursaspor proved to everyone that he can compete at a high level in Europe in the long-athletic player pattern.

We hope that Anadolu Efes, which will play the last game of the series if they win against Olimpia Milano at home today, will continue our streak and make us proud once again by making it to the third Final-Four in a row on the Euroleague platform, which we closed as champions.
