Return the hot ball: Start a new era in American baseball

The termination of the labor agreement between Major League Baseball (MLB) and the Players Association (MLBPA) triggered uncertainty around the 2022 campaign. However, the agreement reached in March represented the beginning of a new era in American baseball.

With an increase in the minimum salary, universal designated hitter and expansion in the playoffs as the main changes, the 2022 Season begins today. After 156 days, in the emblematic park of the Chicago Cubs (Wrigley), activities in the Majors resume .

The search for better conditions (for young people) represented the banner of the players before the new agreement. The commissioner’s office, for its part, proposed different measures, with the aim of increasing the spectacular nature of the game, apparently in decline.

The lack of certainty about innovations is a reality, however, the position of Panamanian Manny Corpas, former Rockies pitcher, is forceful: “You are vicious with the sport you like, they can put 40,000 new rules on it, but people will continue to watch the games”.

With X representatives on Opening Day, the Mexican Power points to a solid year in the best baseball in the world. Julio Urías, José Urquidy and Alex Verdugo are emerging as great protagonists; Víctor González is committed to consolidation, after finishing 2021 in the Minor Leagues.

The Los Angeles Dodgers, according to multiple bookmakers, are presented as the top candidates for the championship in the World Series. The objective is simple: with 162 games to go (by team) start the pursuit of the greatest feats in Major League Baseball.

  • 12 teams qualify for the postseason (three wild cards per league).
  • 700 thousand dollars, new minimum salary in the MLB.
  • 139 Mexicans in history have played in the Majors.
  • Catchers may use electronic devices (communication with the pitcher).
  • Two games were postponed (Red Sox vs. Yankees and Mariners vs. Twins).
  • For the third year in a row, there is a runner on second in extra-innings.
