RD judo teams, to the Pan American Championship in Peru

EL NUEVO DIARIO, SANTO DOMINGO.- Clara Barinas, Albis Castro and Heriberto de Aza will compete from this Saturday in the Pan American Youth Judo Championship that will take place at the I-Videna Sports Center in Lima, Peru.

In addition to the youth athletes, the top team will take part in the Senior Championship that starts next Wednesday on the same stage.

Barinas will compete in the minus 57 kilos category, while Castro will compete in minus 81 kilograms, and De Aza in minus 60 kilos.

The top team is made up of Elmert Ramírez, in less than 66 kilos; Antonio Tornal, in less than 73 kilos; Medickson del Orb, at less than 81 kilos; Robert Florentino, in less than 90 kilograms, and José Nova, in more than 100 kilograms.

The women’s team is made up of Estefanía Soriano, who will compete in minus 48 kilos; Ana Rosa, at less than 57 kilos; Eiraima Silvestre, in less than 78 kilos, and Moira Morillo, in more than 78 kilos.

The coaching staff that will accompany the youth and senior teams is made up of coaches Wilkin Ogando and Wander Mateo, as well as physiotherapist Geraldo Feliz.

Both Barinas and Castro will also see action in their respective categories in the top event.

The program of activities of the championship indicates that the seminar on updating the new rules of judo will be held, in which coach Ogando will be taking part.

The Dominican Federation of Judo (Fedojudo) reported that the participation of the Dominican representation in the judo championships in Peru has been possible with the support of the Ministry of Sports and the Group Creating Olympic Dreams (CRESO).

In both tournaments, which will take place from the 9th to the 11th of this month and from the 15th to the 17th, a total of 234 judokas from 25 countries will see action.
