Roger Schmidt fully understands that the KNVB has postponed PSV’s away match against Feyenoord. Due to the return of the Rotterdam team against Olympique Marseille next Thursday, the Eredivisie topper will be finished the following Sunday at 4.45 pm instead of 2.30 pm.
“It doesn’t matter to me. I understand that,” says Schmidt at the press moment on Friday, recorded by De Telegraaf. “It is always a challenge from Thursday to Sunday. They play a long international season, as we have done. I understand that they want a little more rest.”
The German coach pours clear wine about the playing schedule in the Eredivisie. “The original kick-off time wasn’t that smart,” he explains. “I think a little more time for the teams that play on Thursday is good. We are of course also happy that they are still playing in Europe. That is good for the position of Dutch football.”
Schmidt and PSV will meet Willem II at home next Sunday. A week later, the Eindhoven players play the last Eredivisie top of the season in De Kuip.
