Ligue A: it’s already over for Paris Volleyball

It’s already over for Paris! The adventure in the playoffs came to an end for the players of the capital, swept away, crushed in three games by Montpellier during the quarter-finals of Ligue A. After losing the first two acts of their duel in Montpellier (3-1 Friday then 3-0 Sunday), they again suffered the fury of the Héraultais, this Thursday evening, in their den of Charpy. A setback – severe – in three small sets (20-25, 16-25, 22-25) and barely an hour and a half of the match.

But despite the support of the public (about 1200 spectators), the Parisians seemed helpless against the firepower of Montpellier. Carried by their armada of internationals, including French Olympic champion Nicolas Le Goff or young striker Théo Faure (22), the Montpellier residents left the Parisians no chance.

“It’s a team that is above us, especially when it plays like tonight, says Dorian Rougeyron, the Parisian coach. She is really impressive and we have made too many unforced errors, on serve and in attack, to be able to worry them. Never, this season, we had been put under pressure like that by an opponent. »

A difference in level which makes elimination logical but which does not prevent Parisians from feeling regret at leaving the adventure so prematurely. “We always hope when we start a match, continues the coach. It’s always frustrating to end a season like that, the scores are still severe. They made us outmaneuver, but we can do much better. »

If the players are now on vacation, the managers and the technical staff will now have to look at building the team for next season. And the site promises to be vast. The vast majority of players present this year will leave the capital for other adventures like the libero Benjamin Diez (en route to Tours) or the smuggler Guille Hernan.

For now, only Argentinian Nicolas Mendez, Serbian Nikola Kovacevic, Austrian Mathäus Jurkovics and the two great hopes of French volleyball – setter Kellian Mota Paes (20) and striker Ibrahim Lawani (20) – should stay. These last two nuggets should take on even more weight in the future. The Argentinian libero Alexis Gonzales, so precious with Montpellier this season despite his 40th birthday, should join Paris and bring all his experience to a team which should leave the spotlight to the youth.
